LEAD & BACK VOCALS

Biography

Jean Philippe was born in Québec City on January 8th 1981; the same day as Elvis was destined to follow a career in music. He sang as part of a choir all through is childhood.  In high school, he was in a special "music-study" program in which he played tuba for 6 years.

At the age 13 he started to play guitar, trying to imitate his many idols ranging from Metallica, Iron Maiden to Nirvana. Having no singers among his surrounding friends, J-P started to sing in order to complete his first cover band known as the Troopers.  One day his sisters told him he had a good voice and that he should keep practicing and work on his singing.

After a couple of years J-P left the guitar aside to concentrate on vocals.  At the age of 16, he sang in many cover bands performing in various pubs and venues in the surrounding area of Québec City.  J-P studied music in CEGEP (Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy) for three years, specializing in both classical and jazz singing.  After graduating from CEGEP, J-P moved to Montréal to attend McGill University for four years.  He completed his bachelor’s degree in music with a minor in music technology.  While studying at McGill, J-P sang in the McGill Jazz Choir, and met Dennis W. Lee with whom he later founded the band KIDS EAT CRAYONS.

He sang with many bands and projects along his way to become part of Hamadryad:

Can’t Stop (a Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute band),

Crimson Sunset (a Dream Theater tribute band),

The Fly (a cover band), D-ADDAD (who played original stuff),

United Dreams (another Dream Theater tribute band) and

Harmonie Rock du C.N.D.F. (a Harmonium tribute band)

J-P is currently singing with two other bands, besides Hamadryad:  Kids Eat Crayons (crazy jazz metal) and The Merry Makers (French pop-rock)
